In 2017 Toronto’s City Council committed to reducing its overall greenhouse gases

30% by 2020

65% by 2030

NET ZERO by 2050

In 2019, the same council declared a climate emergency, and by 2020 was able to report they met the original goal of a 30% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and is on track to achieve net zero ahead of projections. To quote the project literature, “Achieving the targets set out in Transform Toronto will require transformational changes in how we live, work, build and commute.”
