" Scoping Plan lays out world’s first detailed pathway to carbon neutrality by 2045, as signed into law by Governor Newsom ."

California

In Nov 2022 the California Air Resources Board (CARB) released its updated proposal to implement the most ambitious climate action of any jurisdiction in the world, taking unprecedented steps to drastically slash pollution and accelerate the transition to clean energy. No economy in the world, much less the soon-to-be 4th largest, has put forth such a comprehensive roadmap to reach carbon neutrality. The plan would raise the stakes for clean energy and climate resiliency. Among the goals is calling for3 million climate-friendly homes by 2030 and 7 million by 2035.

California has a decades long history of addressing energy consumption in the building sector by implementing strict energy efficiency standards for new construction and major renovations. The Building Energy Efficiency Standards, also known as Title 24, require buildings to meet certain energy performance requirements, including efficient lighting, heating, cooling, and insulation. These standards not only reduce carbon emissions but also lower energy costs for residents and businesses. California's climate change regulations have established the state as a trailblazer in environmental policy, inspiring other regions and nations to take similar action.
