VACUUMGLASS®

Window to a Better Tomorrow

Commercial Applications

Perhaps the strongest need for VIG is in the commercial or architectural building façade. VIG lends itself to easy replacement in some cases, retrofit in others and of course new curtain wall, storefront, strip windows or punched opening applications.

Replacement:

Our largest project in the US to date is VIG glazing replacement on a 22-story tower in downtown Dayton, Ohio. This building will be assessed, and a white paper published by Lawrence Berkely Labs on behalf of the Department of Energy. The building consists of a zip lock gasket system with 1960’s era 6mm monolithic PPG Solar Gray glass with 40% transmission. The job entails simple removal of the 6mm glass and old gasket material. Installation of bolted-on angle to horizontal members for added load. Then installation of new strip-lock gasket and insertion of 10mm VIG, both vision and spandrel. A very fast and cost-effective project. Spandrel VIG eliminates the need for any type of insulation system behind it. The building is taken from the 20th to 21st century in a matter of a couple months.

Similarly, VIG is the perfect choice for any of the retrofit systems out there. Installing an in-frame VIG retrofit to curtain wall or storefront improves the U-factor significantly.

Finally, specifying VIG for any commercial framed system improves the overall building performance without extensive frame modifications. Future proof your framing systems with VIG.

Our products work in any Window for <0.10 U-Value (.567)

Since Vacuum Glass in the stand-alone form is only 3/8” (8.3mm) thick, every current windows glazing pocket can accommodate the glass with the possible addition of a wrap-around glazing channel to bring it up to a 1” or other existing thickness.

Composite units will work in any 1”+ thick glazing pockets.

Residentially, the PVC, composite and Pultruded window designs who have been engaged in the “race to the bottom” of the price market can now significantly benefit by now having a low price/high performing product because the thin, light-weight standalone VG works well in low-priced designs.

All product options for standalone VG with 1-2 layers of lowE or Composite with 2-4 layers of lowE glass are available for calculated u-value performance.

Supply sources from around the world will be available so supply, can be assured with rapidly changing demand.
